Senator Chronograph: Mechanical Precision in Short-Time Measurement

Senator Chronograph and Senator Chronograph Navigator

Glashütte Original has long elevated the art of chronograph manufacturing to an exceptional level of craftsmanship. More than 80 years ago, the first wristwatches with short-time measurement were developed in the Saxon watchmaking town, setting new technical benchmarks for their era. Today, the manufactory introduces two new interpretations of the Senator Chronograph, continuing this remarkable tradition. As pioneering as their historic predecessors, they have been conceived to meet the demands of contemporary watchmaking enthusiasts.

Innovation at its Core

Having initiated the transition from pocket watches to wristwatches around a century ago, Glashütte's watchmakers went on to develop the UROFA calibre 59 in the early 1940s – the first modern Glashütte wristwatch chronograph. Its groundbreaking construction followed rigorous technical principles that surpassed the standards of its time and established an entirely new category of precision timepieces.

Today, this pioneering spirit lives on in two remarkable new models: the Senator Chronograph and the Senator Chronograph Navigator.

Functional Perfection: Senator Chronograph Navigator

Visually, both models revive two classic chronograph designs from the past. The dark Senator Chronograph Navigator draws direct inspiration from the pilot's watches of the 1940s. As with its historical predecessors, ease of use and uncompromising functionality were paramount, as a navigation watch had to remain intuitive to operate and effortless to read even under the most demanding conditions.

The Senator Chronograph Navigator features a matt black dial fitted with solid luminous Arabic numerals. The hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova®, while the central chronograph seconds hand, the 30-minute counter and the small second hand are finished in white lacquer for maximum contrast.

The distinctive pilot's crown, adorned with the refined mirrored 'G' symbol, offers exceptional grip, complemented by the classic mushroom-shaped pushers positioned at 2 and 4 o'clock. A tachymeter scale engraved on the rehaut ring enables the measurement of average speed.

Classic Elegance: Senator Chronograph

Like its darker counterpart, the Senator Chronograph is housed in a 41 mm stainless-steel case distinguished by its remarkably slim profile, lending the watch the understated elegance of a refined dress watch.

Its design pays tribute to the historic observation watches produced in Glashütte during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. These robust precision pocket watches were primarily used for maritime navigation.

The silver-white grainé dial provides an elegant backdrop for the applied solid gold Roman numerals with a blue coating, complemented by blued hands. The 30-minute counter and the small seconds display are arranged in perfect symmetry, creating exceptional clarity and balance. At 6 o'clock, the characteristic Panorama Date is elegantly framed in white gold.

Tailor-Made Mechanics: Manufactory Calibre 37-24

At the heart of both models is the automatic Calibre 37-24, built as an integrated column-wheel chronograph. With a diameter of 34.2 mm and a height of only 8 mm, it accommodates all essential chronograph functions within an exceptionally compact architecture: a central chronograph seconds hand, 30-minute counter, small seconds display and the signature Panorama Date.

Its flyback function allows the chronograph to be stopped, reset and restarted instantly with a single press of the pusher, making elapsed-time measurement exceptionally smooth and intuitive.

Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, the movement offers a running time of up to 70 hours. The silicon balance spring ensures outstanding resistance to magnetic fields and temperature fluctuations. Combined with gold regulating screws on the balance wheel rim and Glashütte Original's signature swan-neck fine adjustment, the movement can be regulated with exceptional precision.

Distinctively Glashütte Original: Meticulously Finished

A sapphire crystal case back reveals the exquisitely finished automatic movement in all its detail. Hallmarks of traditional Glashütte watchmaking are showcased throughout, including beveled edges, polished steel components, blued screws and the characteristic three-quarter plate with Glashütte stripe finish.

The movement is further distinguished by a newly developed, highly skeletonised rotor featuring a 21-carat gold oscillation weight and the unmistakable mirrored 'G' symbol.

Both models are available with either a black or blue Louisiana alligator leather strap, a sand-coloured synthetic strap or a stainless steel bracelet, all equipped with a practical quick-change system that allows tool-free strap changes. For the first time, Glashütte Original also introduces a quick-change mechanism for the folding clasp, enabling it to be transferred effortlessly between different straps. This thoughtful innovation perfectly complements the progressive character of these two new chronographs.

The Senator Chronograph and Senator Chronograph Navigator will be available worldwide from August 2026, exclusively through Glashütte Original Boutiques and authorised retailers.
